J-P Livestock Co. is located in the heart of Cache Valley. Our ranch is within 5 minutes of Logan, Utah. We are focused on raising Reined Cow Horses and Registered Black Angus that will thrive in our demanding environment.

Having been raised on a cattle ranch in Western Montana I have always known the value of a good horse. I never wanted arena horses because they were afraid of everything when you took them outside and I wanted something more athletic than your typical ranch or trail horse. We have focused our stallions and mare band on the following criteria:

Conformation - We want a horse that is well balanced. We look for good angles in the shoulder, clean neck and front end, short back, straight and correct legs, and as pretty head and hip as we can get. We also try to raise colts that will finish out at 14.3 to 15.1 hands. We have tried to focus on mares that will still give us good size to handle varied environments but not sacrifice on athleticism. We are looking for colts that have the build to excel in any discipline.

Disposition - Our horses need to be able to be used and handled by people with varying ranges of experience. Besides ranch work, we take all of our mares on pack trips into remote wilderness areas each summer so they can handle being in unique and uncomfortable situations. They have learned to handle tough environments and keep a cool head.

Pedigree - We try to find as strong of pedigrees as we can by leading sires of the cutting and reining horse industries. Our blue roan stallion is by Peptoboonsmal and we have mares by Playgun, Rooster, Mister Dual Pep, Laredo Blue, Starlights Wrangler, and others. We focus as much as possible on the dam's maternal line to strengthen our pedigrees. Our maternal lines are Smart Little Lena, Doc's Hickory, Dry Doc, Hollywood Dun It, Reminic, and other greats.

Athleticism - We start all of our mares as coming 2 year olds. Some will have show careers and others were put right into the mare band. But all of our mares are athletic with the talent to throw colts that can be shown in cutting, reined cow horse, or reining.
